2-How does nursing data quality relate to decision support?
Nursing data must be of high quality to support safe and effective patient care. Clinical decision support systems (CDSS) and nursing data are not independent of one another. The information that is entered into the CDSS must be accurate and of high quality in order for the system to be effective. “The CDSS nursing science remains in its infancy and significantly lags behind the progress made by medicine” (Anderson & Willson, 2008, p. 157). With this in mind it is essential that nurses are able to extract pertinent information and convert it to guide practice (Hebda & Czar, 2009). Without the input of quality clinical assessments by nurses the effectiveness of CDSSs will be adversely influenced.
