module 2 question 3

Module 2 question 3 Comparison of results

I found the different search methods enlightening. Each resource had its positive and negative attributes. In PubMed it was difficult to create a search for my topic of congestive heart failure and chemotherapy treatment that produced the desired results. I believe this was mostly due to my approach and ability to use the database effectively, not a lack of literature. The MeSH phrases were helpful in locating articles as well as utilizing limits. CINAHL was a bit easier to navigate and retrieve relevant articles. The CINAHL headings guided me in the right direction and will be very useful tools to me in the future. Both CINAHL and PubMed are reliable databases that I would feel comfortable using in my future practice. The National Clearinghouse Guidelines was very easy to use. I had never used this index before and was able to navigate through a search quite easily. The retrieved guidelines were relevant, easy and to obtain. Of all the resources I utilized in my search, Google scholar was definitely the easiest to use. When using Google scholar I did note that it would be more difficult to place limits on the search and the results may not be as reliable as CINAHL, PubMed or the NCG. Some alternative search strategies may include using different databases within the Eccles Library such as DynaMed or the Cochrane Collaborative and the librarians. It has become obvious to me that finding relevant information on a topic takes time, effort and patience. It is important to be organized in a search and be proficient in an electronic index.
